Cooperation! A quality that resides in the blood of every citizen of India. India is that pious land which has spread the message of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” the world is the family) round the globe. Overall, Gujarat is a dry land and especially when it comes to Banaskantha it is considered to be a desert area. Picking up the impression of the backward area due to the lack of scope for industrialization, our founder Lt. Galbabhai Nanjibhai Patel saw the dream of changing this identity of this area. With the vision of “the widow living in the remotest village of the district shall live her life with self-respect and dignity keeping her hand on the handle of the sickle”; Galbabhai attempted that the local people shall participate in the integrated business of milk by initiating cooperative activities with the milk cooperative societies on October 3rd, 1966. In the area where the firm belief was prevailing that “the son and the milk cannot be sold” accomplishing this task was a challenge itself. Taking each and every social class with him without any partiality, on January 31st, 1969, Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (Banas Dairy) got registered under The Cooperative Societies Act. Later on, on January 14th, 1971, Galbabhai inaugurated the Banas Dairy Plant spread in 122 acres which is currently situated in Jagana Village- 4 kms away from present Palanpur. Beginning with some hundred litres per day, Banas Dairy today has reached on an average daily capacity of 5.7 million litres milk production.

નિસ્વાર્થ અને સાદગીના પ્રતિકસમા બનાસ ડેરીના આધ્યસ્થાપક સ્વ.ગલબાભાઈ નાંનજીભાઈ પટેલનું સ્વપ્ન ગામડાંઓના ખેડુતો અને પશુપાલકોનું સામાજિક અને આર્થિક સ્તર વાસ્તવિક રીતે ઉંચુ લાવવાનું ત્યારે સાકર થયું જયારે તેઓએ ખેડા જિલ્લાનાં દૂધ સહકારી માળખા “અમૂલ પેટર્ન” આધારિત સહકારી દૂધ સંઘનું સર્જન બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લામાં કર્યું. તેઓએ કઠોર પરિશ્રમ કરી જિલ્લાના પાલનપુર અને વડગામ તાલુકાના આઠ ગામમાં દૂધ સહકારી મંડળીઓ શરૂ કરી તેમનું દૂધ એકત્રિત કરી તા. ૦૩-૧૦-૧૯૬૬ થી દૂધસાગર ડેરી, મહેસાણા ખાતે આપવાનું શરૂ કર્યું હતું. બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લા સહકારી દૂધ ઉત્પાદક સંઘ લિ., પાલનપુરની નોધણી સહકારી કાયદા હેઠળ તા. ૩૧-૦૧-૧૯૬૯ નાં રોજ થઇ છે, જેને આપણે ‘બનાસ ડેરી’ તરીકે ઓળખીયે છીએ. રાષ્ટ્રીય ડેરી વિકાસ બોર્ડના સહયોગથી “ઓપરેશન ફ્લડ પ્રોગ્રામ” અંતર્ગત ડેરી પ્લાન્ટનો શિલાન્યાસ સ્વ. ગલબાભાઈ નાંનજીભાઈ પટેલના વરદ હસ્તે જગાણા નજીક ૧૨૨ એકર જમીનમાં તા. ૧૪-૦૧-૧૯૭૧ ના રોજ સંપન્ન થયો હતો. દૈનિક ૧.૫ લાખ લિટર દૂધની પ્રક્રિયા ક્ષમતા ધરાવતો ડેરી પ્લાન્ટ તા. ૦૭-૦૫-૧૯૭૧ ના રોજ શરૂ થયો હતો, ત્યારબાદ ડેરી પ્લાન્ટનું વિસ્તૃતિકરણ કરી તેની પ્રક્રિયા ક્ષમતા ૪ લાખ લિટર પ્રતિદિન કરવામાં આવી હતી.

ડેરીના આધસ્થાપક સ્વ. ગલબાભાઈ નાંનજીભાઈ અને ચેરમેનશ્રીઓ સ્વ. ગલબાભાઈ માંનજીભાઈ પટેલ તથા સ્વ.દલુભાઈ દેસાઈ તથા પરથીભાઈ જી. ભટોળ અને ચેરમેનશ્રી શંકરભાઈ ચૌધરી ના સમર્પણ અને સહકારના સિદ્ધાતો આધારિત વચનબદ્ધ નેતૃત્વ સાથેના સંનિષ્ઠ પ્રયત્નોના પરિણામે દૂધ ઉત્પાદકોનો વિશ્વાસ સંપાદિત કરેલ છે, જેના ફળસ્વરૂપે આજે ભારતની અત્યાધુનિક સહકારી ડેરીઓમાં પ્રથમ નંબરનું ગૌરવપ્રદ સ્થાન બનાસડેરીએ પ્રાપ્ત કરેલ છે. નાના પાયાથી શરૂ થયેલ ડેરીનું બીજ ઈ.સ.૧૯૬૬ માં શરૂઆતમાં કેટલીક દૂધ સહકારી મંડળીઓની સ્થાપના સાથે રોપાયું હતું, જે આજે મોટુ વટવૃક્ષ બની ગયેલ છે. બનાસ ડેરીમાં એશિયા ખંડનો મહત્વકાંક્ષી અને અત્યાધુનિક સ્વયંસંચાલિત ડેરી પ્લાન્ટ (બનાસ-૨) રૂ.૧૧૦ કરોડના ખર્ચે તૈયાર થયેલો છે, જેનાથી ડેરીની પ્રક્રિયા ક્ષમતા ૧૦.૫ લાખ લિટર પ્રતિદિન થયેલ છે. અત્યાધુનિક સ્વયંસંચાલિત “સ્ટેટ ઓફ આર્ટ” બનાસ-૨ ડેરી સંકુલ ત્રણ પ્રકારના “પ્રોગ્રામેબલ લોજિકલ કન્ટ્રોલ્સ” સાથે ઇન્ટેલિજન્ટ ફીલ્ડ ઇન્સટ્રુમેન્ટ સિસ્ટમ અનર્ગત ૫૬૦ ન્યુમેટ્રીક વાલ્વ ધરાવે છે. આ ડેરી પ્લાન્ટમાં સમગ્ર પ્રક્રિયા મેન મશીન ઈન્ટરફેશ (એમ.એમ.ઇ.) પ્રમાણે અટક્યા વગર તાલબદ્ધ રીતે સ્વયંસંચાલિત થાય છે. જેને પરિણામે આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય ગુણવત્તાયુક્ત દુધની બનાવટોનું નિર્માણ થાય છે.

બનાસડેરી અંતર્ગત બનાસ-૧ (6 એલએલપીડી પ્રોસેસિંગ ક્ષમતા) બનાસ-૨ (33 એલએલપીડી પ્રોસેસિંગ ક્ષમતા) બનાસ-૩ (૧૭ એલએલપીડી પ્રોસેસિંગ ક્ષમતા) તથા ૩ દૂધ શીતકેન્દ્રો ખીમાણા, થરાદ અને રાધનપુર દ્વારા કુલ ૫૬ લાખ લીટર પ્રતિદિન દૂધની પ્રક્રિયા ક્ષમતા ધરાવે છે. બનાસ-૩ ડેરી પ્લાન્ટ “સ્ટેટ ઓફ આર્ટ” ટર્ન કી આધારિત રાષ્ટ્રીય ડેરી વિકાસ બોર્ડ દ્વારા બંધાયેલ છે. આ ડેરી પ્લાન્ટમાં 40 એમટીપીડી માખણ અને 60 એમટી પાઉડર પ્લાન્ટ આવેલા છે આ બધા પ્લાન્ટ સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ સાધનો સાથે સલામત,કાર્યક્ષમ,ભરોસાયુક્ત કાર્યો અને સતત ગુણવત્તા માટે સંપૂર્ણ સ્વયંસંચાલિત ડીસીએસ કન્ટ્રોલ સિસ્ટમ ધરાવે છે. બનાસ-૩ ડેરી પ્લાન્ટની કામગીરી થતાં, કુલ દૂધ પ્રક્રિયા કરવાની ક્ષમતામાં વધારો થયો છે અને નવા માખણ પ્લાન્ટ 80 એમટીપીડી ક્ષમતા સાથે શરૂ થયા છે, તેથી કુલ માખણ ક્ષમતા વધીને 120 એમટીપીડી થઈ ગઈ છે.આ નવી રચનામાં 70 કેએલપીડી વાળા આઈસ્ક્રીમ પ્લાન્ટ શરૂ થયા છે. આ ઉપરાંત બનાસડેરી 50 એમટી ઘી, 5.5 એલએલપીડી યુએચટી દૂધ, 30 એમટી ચીઝ અને 20 એમટી પ્રોસેસ્ડ પનીર, 2.5 એલએલપીડી પાઉચ દૂધ, 1.5 એલએલપીડી છાશ અને 255 એમટી પાવડર દરરોજ બનાવે છે. પરિણામે સારા પાણીની જરૂરીયાત ઓછી થઇ છે જે પર્યાવરણ ઉપર સીધી અસર કરતી બાબત છે.

Late Galbabhai Patel, founder chairman and the selfless sage cocooned a dream to uplift Socio-economical status of village farmers which is fulfilled through the creation of a Co-operative milk union for Banaskantha district, on the foot print of “Amul Dairy” of Kheda district, the ideal model of a co-operative. Consequently, eight village level co-operative milk societies in Vadgam and Palanpur taluka of district were registered and started collecting and pouring milk at DudhSagar Dairy, Mehsana from 3rd October, 1966. The milk union got registered under the Co-operative Act on 31st January, 1969 as Banaskantha District Co-operative milk producers’ Union Limited, Palanpur, popularly known as “BANAS DAIRY”. The foundation stone was laid down by late Galbabhai Patel on 14th January, 1971 at 122 acres land acquired near Jagana village in order to set up dairy plant under the Operation Flood programme launched by National Dairy Development Board. On 7th May, 1971 the dairy started functioning at the same place with handling capacity of 1.5 lac liters of milk that was expanded later on with processing capacity of 4lac liters milk per day.

As a result of relentless efforts of dedicated and committed leadership by founder chairman late Galbabhai Nanjibhai Patel, Ex.Chairman late Galbabhai Manjibhai Patel, Ex. Chairman working on co-operative principles won the trust of milk producers. Ultimately, it has been transformed into the modern dairy complex, the largest Dairy Co-operative in India. A small step, organizing some societies and collecting few hundred liters of milk in the year 1966 has turned in to a quantum leap, when the ambitious and ultra-modern automated dairy plant of Asia continent has been shaped adjoining to first plant (Banas II dairy) with cost of Rs.110 Crore to meet not only present but also future need to handle 10.5 lac liters milk per day. The Banas II Dairy Complex has the most modernized State-of-Art Technology having equipped with three types of programmable Logical Controls (PLCs). In addition, it has more than 560 pneumatic valves under the intelligent System. Surprisingly, entire processing of plant is being operated through Man-Machine-Interface (MMI). The reporting has been done with automatic system as well. The plant manufactures the products of international quality due to uninterrupted rhythm in processes and operation.

BANAS DAIRY can meet with future challenges to collect the entire milk produced in district, processing and manufacturing quality milk products to satisfy customers. Altogether Banas-I (6 LLPD processing capacity) and Banas-II Dairy plant (33 LLPD processing capacity) along with new venture Banas-III (17 LLPD processing capacity) and 3 milk Chilling Centers Khiman, Tharad and Radhanpur, Banas Dairy is able to process 56 lacs liters of milk per day. Banas II dairy plant is a State of Art plant which has been built by National Dairy Development Board on turnkey basis. This Plant encompasses 40 MTPD butter and 60 MT powder plant. All these plants have best, efficient, reliable operations and consistent quality. With the commissioning of the Banas III Dairy plant the total milk processing capacity increased and new butter plant commissioned with 80 MTPD capacity, so total butter capacity increased to 120 MTPD. Ice-cream plant with 70 KLPD commissioned at this new structure. Besides this Banas dairy manufactures 50 MT Ghee, 5.5 LLPD UHT milk, 30 MT Cheese and 20 MT processed cheese, 2.5 LLPD pouch milk, 1.5 LLPD Buttermilk and 255 MT powder per day.
